Disclaimer: I was not asked to write this review or compensated for doing so. I wrote this review to brag about the service we received while visiting their restaurant.
Note: My circumstances have changed since I wrote this blog post. The person whom I refer to as “hubby” no longer plays that role in my life. I, also, no longer live in Indiana. I wanted to point this out to eliminate any confusion for when you read more recent posts. Proceed!
We ate at Don Hall’s Hollywood Drive-In Restaurant the other day. We’re still getting a feel for our new area and our goal is to eat at as many places as humanly possible. As I blog and write reviews, I figured I would review each restaurant we visit.
First impressions…it looked great on the outside. We always like a good diner — something about the atmosphere, I think. It’s kind of like eating in some sort of time machine. The building itself is really nice and there were some nice trees outside as well as flowers and beautiful, green grass. Outside appearances, to us, are important. Who wants to eat at a place that looks all dingy and lifeless outside? If you’re looking right at the diner from the front, the actual diner is on the left and the drive-in is on the right side. We decided to go inside this time around, so we headed inside.
When we made it to our table we took a look at the menu. Everything sounded great and the prices were, too. The menu consisted of a little bit of everything — steaks, chops, seafood, burgers, and sandwiches. They have some great, home-style desserts, too. REAL home-style, not something bought from a store. But, I won’t disclose those — it’s a “you gotta try it for yourself” type of thing. :P Me and my hubby decided to have breakfast for supper, as they serve some breakfast dishes all day long. It was amazingly delicious. We didn’t even remember the last time we’ve had breakfast for supper so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity. We both ordered the same thing (we actually didn’t mean to, lol) — our meals came with eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, and toast. YUM! We did their “3 for $3.00″ for Brandon — we decided to get him some baby corn dogs, macaroni and cheese, and applesauce. All three of us ate like there would be no tomorrow, simply put.
All in all, we really enjoyed our experience. We felt comfortable and as if we were at home — we truly got that diner experience. I have to give some (okay, maybe half…or more) credit to our server, Ryan. He was extremely kind, attentive, and helpful during our entire dining experience. Something about his personality was just perfect, and it’s kind of like he added to our experience. We (okay, well, mostly me) were a little worried that we would feel like we wouldn’t fit in after we moved, but that has definitely not been the case. We have felt so at-home here — it’s been unbelievable. Eating at Don Hall’s further reiterated to me that this is our home and that we definitely made the right decision in moving. I, personally, have felt more at-home during our 2 months here than I ever did in 22 years in Mississippi.
Thank you, Don Hall’s (especially our server, Ryan) for the wonderful dining experience! We’ll be visiting again!
